A British Officer's letters sent home to Canada by Lieutenant William Milton Skilling during WW1. He served in the Royal Artillery as a Forward Observation Officer in France and Belgium. After the 3rd Battle of Ypres (Passchendaele), he was invalided to England. He returned to Germany with the British Army of the Rhine in 1919.

Bill writes to his older sister Mae that the Board has ordered 3 more weeks at Eaton Hall, a convalescent home in Chester, because of deafness in his left ear from gunfire. Bill describes magnificent Eaton Hall which was the residence of the Duke of Westminster.
